Race across the USA

Race across the USA
Beginning January 16, 2015 an international team of athletes will cross the United States on foot with the goal of inspiring a generation

Wednesday, February 4, 2015

I have failed as part of the Race Across the USA and I am very excited about the future.

My race is over but my journey has just begun?
The more I think about it the more I realize that a race is a pretty silly format to inspire kids to be healthy.  Pushing ones body past it's limits in order to beat someone else is not the message I wish to present to kids.
One of the things that made me fall in love with the 100 mile club is how that it open to everyone regardless of athletic ability.  It's not about who get's there first, it's about making positive decisions. Little things add up to big things
A run across the country is a perfect way to exemplify these ideals on a larger scale. For me it is no longer a a race it's a team effort.  There is no first place only a collective goal between my crew and anyone who want to join us in inspiring kids to be active and have a whole lot of fun in the process.
Together with my awesome friend Jup Brown from New Zealand
and our crew Vanessa Runs her husband Shacky and our medic Alex
We want make some friends explore the country and run with you!
Jup and I were by far the highest fundraisers for the 100 Mile club as part of the race and together we have already raised over $10,000 which is pretty freaking AWESOME. Over 1,000 kids have been given a better chance a healthy future because of you and people just like you.

Thank you to everyone who has made donation thus far and everyone who plans to in the future

I am not sure what tomorrow will I bring but that is how I have always have lived my live and I get excited thinking about it.

Barefoot Alex

Off day gibberish

On our off day I got up at the crack of dawn to go talk to some high school kids. When I got back we challenged Rob to drink a gallon on milk in under an hour. I was recording the event for this podcast but when I went to take a pic of him puking it erased the recording. Here a short make up podcast

Day 5

I meant to record something longer later but forgot. Oh well Day 5 Podcast

Thank you in advance to my family, friends and sponsors that will be supporting me during this adventure.

Before I embark on a most Epic Journey I would like to thank everyone that is making this dream of mine a reality.
First and for most thank you to Trail Racing Over Texas.  None of this would be possible without your help.  I am proud to be part of your T.R.O.T. Racing team and am humbled by the passion you have for giving back to the community and your desire to help kids to live happy and healthy lives.
Thank you for having faith in me, your support really means a lot.
This is my friend Rob Goyen founder of Trail Racing Over Texas. Six years ago he was over 347 pounds and had never ran before.  Today is under 200 lbs, he quit drinking and smoking and is now an Ultra runner. Please take a moment to
read his story here
It's never too late to change your life around and start making healthy choices. But why wait? If we can instill proactive life choices in children. A life full of happiness is their's to be had.

Thank you to 100 Mile Club for existing.  Not only are you making a real difference in the lives of thousands of children across the world, seeing children be active and excited about running puts a huge smile on my face. It fills my heart with warmth and makes me extremely optimistic about the future.

Without the vision and dreams of Core Runner Darren Van Soye and Race Director Sandy Van Soye this race would not exist.  Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to the 100 Mile club.

Thank you also to my fellow runners in this adventure.  I can't wait to get to know each and everyone of you amazing people.
Thank you to everyone who has made a donation on my behalf or on the behalf of any of the runners.  You are the ones that are really making a difference!
Thank you to Luna sandals they have been my footwear of choice for the last 6 years.  I have won over 30 races in them ranging from 1 mile to 50km. They make amazing huarache sandals and are company that year after year has donated to the 100 Mile Club on my behalf.  I will always consider everyone at Luna part of my extended family.

I will have few pairs of Limited addition Luna sandals for sale during the race. Also available soon at Luna Sandals.com
proceeds will go to the 100 Mile Club.
(more on this to come later)
Thank you to SUUNTO I will be using their Ambit 3 GPS watch to track my progress and to help keep me from getting lost.
You can follow along here at their
Thank you to Salomon who makes bar none the best hydration packs in the business.  Although I don't know if I will need it I am bringing one with with me on this adventure just in case.
The Bearded Brother love Ultra running, Disc Golf and making some of the most nutritious Vegan energy bars on the planet.  They will be stocking me up with healthy goodness as I run across the country. I plan on starting the race cleanly shaven on day one and seeing what kind beard I can grow over 140 days as my way of paying respect to company that I love.

Quite possibly my new favorite thing.  I have been a long time proponent of using massage to help restore my body after running.  It has replaced both the Grid Foam Roller and the stick both I think are great products but neither are as effective as the "Roll Recovery R8"  When I have given every thing I've got during a long run I do not have the energy needed to give myself a proper massage.  Unlike the foam roller or the stick.  The "roll Recovery R8"  has the resistance built in.  It easy to use and the results are amazing.
Thank you to "Stone" Farms for putting a big smile on my face.
:)
ZZYXXZ
Thank You ZZYXXZ reflective apparel.  If I look shiny it's because of them.  They care deeply about keeping runners safe and visible.
Thank you to Orange Mud for the Handheld's will be using on my trip
I will be supplementing my diet with MCT lean Vegan protein after each run and MCT lean oils into my meals I cook each night.
Altra Running
Thank you to Altra for Sponsoring Team T.R.O.T.
I will be bring a pair of Altra Paradigm's with me for those days when my feet need a little comfort and those nights when I need a slipper to keep them warm. Altra uses the same distributor as Luna Sandals in Japan so they are already kind of like family.
Trail Toes
Thank you to Trail Toes for sponsoring Team T.R.O.T. I look forward to using your product
Thank you to Aravaipa Running  not only are they  Arizona's premiere race organizers they are some really good people that I hope will join forces with the 100  Mile Club someday soon.

Don't let the name full you.  I am proud to be an ambassador for this kooky bunch of running misfits who are passionate about enjoying life outdoors and giving back to those in need.
Last but certainly not least

Thank you to my family for supporting me in whatever I do.  I think the hardest part about a race like this will be being away from you guys.  You will be my heart constantly and I will do my best to make you guys proud.

Thank You Gifts

This is my home and almost everyday I run on the beach.
Day after day, hour after hour, for well over 10,000's miles I have ran, preparing my body for whatever adventure may come next?

On October 18th I will be running the E.C100 an Urban 100 mile Ultra marathon through the streets of Southern California  and then on 1/16/15 I begin my 3,080  mile run across the United States
all if an effort raise money for the
Along the way I have rescued countless discarded sand toys before they could wash away into the ocean or were destroyed by the tractors that comb the sand each morning.
The last couple years I have been giving away one of kind shovel amulets out as finisher awards for races that I have directed.
They have become a sought after and a prized possession of many!
I have seen them proudly displayed in at least 10 different peoples homes often right next to their favorite trophy or medal.
I was thinking how can thank people for their generosity in donating to the 100 Mile Club on my behalf ???
I am not a rich man and I don't have much to give
.  What I do have are are lots of sand toys once loved and forgotten by children that I hope will be cherished once again.

I  decided on a 3 tier rewards system.

$30 Donation
($30 helps change the lives of three children)
"For Goodness Sake I got a Rake Club"
For your generous donation of $30  I will send you a genuine one of kind 100% recycled in California Rake amulet,  It probably will still have sand on it, the smell of the ocean and maybe a little bit of tar if you are lucky.  Wear your rake with pride and if you have an itch on your back go ahead and scratch it.  Find your inner peace and use rake your amulet to build a Zen rock garden anywhere and anytime.

$50 Donation
"Uplifter Drifter Sifter Club"

Every drifter need's a sifter. (If that's not a line in a Dr. Suess book it should be.) You my friend are an uplifter!  You just helped change the life of 5 kids.  THANK YOU!  Wear your sifter with pride and always be prepared to strike  it rich sifting through sand and streams for gold, diamonds or even pennies. Your kind donation could  make you a gazillionaire and if you do strike rich I already know that you are a kind hearted soul that will use your new found wealth to help others.
:)

$100 or more Donation
"Heart of Awesomeness"
Anyone who is willing to help change the lives of ten or more kids definitely has a heart full of  AWESOMENESS.  You have handle on your heart and now you heart on the handle of your amulet.  These shovels are my very favorite thing to find on the beach.  They bring my heart happiness and I hope they do the same for you.  They are very rare and I have a limited supply of which I can't wait to share with some awesome people.
If you do make a donation please email me at
Teameldo@gmail.com
or
contact me on facebook

Please include your name and address so that I can mail to you your thank you gift.  If you see a particular item in one of these pictures or have preference of color  I will do my best to send you the one you want.  Note if your amulet is cracked sandy or has tar on it, that just gives it more character.
:)

I will be posting the names of everyone who makes a donation (unless they wish to be anonymous)
I hope that you appreciate  these thank you gifts I know that they are silly but my heart went into making them and if you send me a picture of you wearing yours I would love to post it on this blog.

Really though it's not about the reward it's all about helping out some kids.
Thank you very much in advance for your generosity.
The 100 mile club is  great organization that I care deeply about and any donation no matter how small can help make a big impact on a child's life!
